Akshay Deoras is a young meteorologist who hails from Nagpur, a city in the central part of India. He holds an advanced postgraduate research degree in climate and atmospheric science from the University of Leeds, UK.

He believes in following his passion irrespective of the adversities. Thus, in spite of having a strong academic background, he set aside the Indian norm of opting a lucrative career in popular fields like engineering.

He was mesmerised by thunderstorms and the Indian monsoon at a tender age. His meteorological career began as a weather blogger in the year 2009 when he was just 14. In a very short span, his weather forecasts caught the attention of executives of leading newspapers like Tarun Bharat. He took up this challenging role and started disseminating his weather forecasts through regular newspaper columns - first of its kind in India. These trend setting weather forecasts were extremely popular and had a mass readership.

Over the years, Akshay's weather forecasts and views on meteorological aspects have been featured in several newspapers, news websites and magazines. They have played an instrumental role in saving lives and crop damage from high-impact weather events such as severe thunderstorms and flooding. Forecasting accuracy along with an eloquence in communicating the complexities of meteorology in a lucid way have made him a public figure.

With high responsibility roles in several organisations, he has got a hands-on experience in not only meteorology but also leadership, strategic planning and disaster management. During his stint as an intern at the Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi, he worked on creating climate security in India by proposing a revamp to weather forecasting in India.

Akshay's abilities have been appreciated through awards such as the Young Achievers Award (by Lokmat Group) and Government of India's INSPIRE Scholarship (to pursue baccalaureate education). At the age of 20, the Government of Maharashtra invited him to present his views on improving state’s agro-weather forecasting system. His suggestions helped the Maharashtra government in disseminating weather and agro-weather information to the highest number of farmers in entire India.

In addition to meteorology, Akshay is an active researcher and likes to explore the variability of the Indian monsoon and winter weather systems. He has been invited to present his research work in several national and international conferences on myriad topics under tropical meteorology, sustainability, climate change and radio astronomy.
